Book Recs Based on Gilmore Girls Characters

If there’s one show I’ve had on repeat since I was about 14 years old, it’s Gilmore Girls. What makes this show so good is the characters. They’re all very complicated but are also very easy to fall in love with, so here eight book recommendations based on your favourite character from the show.

If you like Lorelai Gilmore then you should read Faking Under the Mistletoe by Ashley Shephard

Faking Under the Mistletoe follows Olivia who absolutely loves Christmas so this year she’s out in charge of organising the Christmas events at the company she interns at. The only problem is that her boss is possibly the grinchiest man she’s ever met.

Yes, this is a Christmas book, but it’s so good that I just have to recommend it all year round.

The main character in this book feels like Lorelai. They’re both super upbeat and quirky, and both end up with people that are kind of grumpy.

If you like Rory Gilmore then you should read Reputation by Lex Croucher

Reputation is a regency romance with a modern feel. It follows Georgiana Ellers who moves to a new town to live with her aunt and uncle after being abandoned by her parents. Here she meets Frances and quickly finds herself falling into a group of rich but improper friends where she is introduced to a whole new world full of drunken debauchery and mysterious young men.

This book kind of reminds me of Rory’s storyline from season 5 onwards. Obviously, Rory kind of goes a little bit off the rails as she becomes friends with new people. However, both showcase that the new friends are not all bad.

If you like Emily Gilmore then you should read The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop

This feels like a little bit of a cop out, but I think it’s difficult to recommend a fiction book about a character like Emily.

The Third Gilmore Girl is the new memoir by Kelly Bishop who played Emily in Gilmore Girls.

If you like Luke Danes then you should read The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore

The Pumpkin Spice Cafe follows Jeanie as she inherits a cute cafe in the small town of Dream Harbor. She jumps at the chance to start a new life in a new town and she soon meets a local farmer, Logan, who she quickly falls for.

Obviously this book is set in a cosy and quirky small town so it’s very Gilmore Girls coded anyway, but the love interest in this book is very Luke-coded. He is kinda grumpy, likes to keep to himself, but is very well-loved by the town.

If you like Dean Forrester then you should read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Lara Jean writes love letters to her secret crushes and hides them under her bed. But one day they’re accidentally sent out and every person she’s ever had a crush on finds out. And, when Lara Jean’s sister’s boyfriend receives a letter, she ends up fake dating a popular jock to prove that she’s completely over her sister’s boyfriend.

Dean reminds me of Peter Kavinsky so much because he is a character that starts out kinda sweet but is honestly just kind of a dick. And, if you’ve only watched the movies or haven’t read the books since you were young then I don’t want to hear any arguments!

If you like Logan Huntzberger then you should read Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

After centuries of sleep, the gods are warring. But, Iris Winnow is more focused on trying to contact her brother who has disappeared from the frontlines. She works at the Oath Gazette where she has been competing against Roman Kitt for a promotion, and she’s been using a magical typewriter to send letters to her brother.

Except, her brother hasn’t been getting the letters. They’ve been going to Roman, who also has a magical typewriter, and he’s been replying using an alias.

Okay, so yes, this is a fantasy book. But here me out!

Roman is a journalist working towards a promotion where he clashes with his coworker but then falls in love with her. He also comes from a really wealthy family and struggles with their expectations for him.

The author of his book, Hannah Bonam-Young, literally says that this book is for Jess fans! Warren definitely gives older Jess vibes, or atleast what Jess might’ve become if we had seen more of him.

If you like Paris Geller then you should read Not Here to Be Like by Michelle Quach

Not Here to Be Liked is about Eliza, a teenage girl who knows she is the perfect candidate to becomer the next editor-in-chief of her school newspaper. She is the most qualified and has worked the hardest. But then an ex-jock randomly decides to join and is voted editor-in-chief simply because he’s more likeable and ‘seems more like a leader.’

So Eliza writes an essay that ends up accidentally starting a feminist movement at her school.

Eliza reminds me so much of Paris. They’re both strong female characters who work on the school newspaper, who both know what they deserve, but who struggle to get what they want simply because people don’t think they’re likeable enough.
