The best books to read if you love vampires

I fell in love with vampire fiction when I was a teenager and never looked back. I’ve read so many and there are so many more that I want to read but here’s 13 of my favourite vampire books and series from over the years!

The Coldest Touch – Isabel Sterling

Whenever Elise touches someone, she experiences exactly how they’ll die. After she saw her brother’s death but was unable to prevent it, she’s desperate to get rid of this terrible gift, no matter the cost.

Vampires of El Norte – Isabel Canas

As the daughter of a rancher in the 1840s, Nena’s home has been long threatened by the tensions with the Anglo settlers from the north. But there’s something far more sinister lurking in the night. 

One night, Nena is attacked and killed and fearing that he will be blamed, her best friend, Nestor, disappears into the darkness. Nestor is unable to move on from his grief and 9 years later returns home to find that Nena is still alive – and she hates him for leaving.

When the United States attacks Mexico, they’re brought together on the road to war where the shock of their reunion is quickly overshadowed by nightmarish creatures.

Twilight – Stephenie Meyer

Bella Swan is moving from sunny Arizona to a gloomy small town in Washington to live with her dad. There she meets the mysterious Edward Cullen who appears to both hate her and be mysteriously intrigued by her at the same time.

But Edward is keeping lots of secrets – and Bella is determined to find out what they are.

My Roommate is a Vampire – Jenna Levine

Cassie is on the brink of eviction and desperate to find a new place to live when she comes across a cheap apartment listing that seems way too good to be true. 

Her new roommate seems nice but he’s up all hours of the night, has a secret room that she’s not allowed in and he talks like he’s straught out of a regency novel. But, he also leaves her heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art and asks her about her day.

The Vampire Diaries – L.J. Smith

Elena is the golden girl who is used to getting everything that she wants – including boys. Stefan is a mysterious and brooding stranger that’s just moved to town and he seems to be the only one that can resist Elena’s charms. But, she’s determined to have him.

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side – Beth Fantaskey

Jessica is ready to complete her senior year when a bizarre and mysterious stranger shows up in her small town and informs her that she is a vampire princess and she’s betrothed to marry him. 

This is not what she expected for her final year of high school. Now she has to deal with becoming a vampire, finishing high school and falling in love.

Vampire Academy – Richelle Mead

After 2 years of freedom, Rose and Lissa have just been caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for royalty and their guardians-to-be. Lissa is a mortal vampire princess and Rose is training to be her guardian.

Dead Until Dark – Charlaine Harris

Ever since synthetic blood was created, vampires have ‘come out’ and now live among humans. 

Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress in small-town Louisiana who can read minds. And then one night, a vampire walks into her bar and she finds that she’s unable to read his mind.

Marked – P.C. & Kristin Cast

After she’s Marked by a vampire tracker, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night where she will become a vampire. But she’s no ordinary fledgling – she has actually been Marked by the special vampire Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five of the elements.

Mina and the Undead – Amy McCaw

Mina has just arrived in New Orleans to visit her sister. She can’t wait to explore the city’s dark secrets and things just get better when she gets a summer job working at a horror movie mansion. 

But then Mina stumbles upon the body of a girl with puncture marks in her neck. Someone is recreating New Orleans’ most brutal supernatural killings and Mina’s sister, Libby, is the main suspect.

A Dowry of Blood – S.T. Gibson

Constanta was saved from the brink of death by a mysterious stranger and transformed into a bride for an undead king. Constanta becomes Dracula’s first wife and over the years she slowly begins to see that her beloved husband is capable of terrible things. 

Told in the form of her last letter to her husband, Constanta details the reasons that she felt like she had to kill him.

Secret Vampire – L.J. Smith

Poppy has just been diagnosed with a life-ending illness and there’s nothing anyone can do to save her. Until her best friend, James, shows up. Poppy has been in love with James for as long as she can remember but he’s never shown any interest and she’s about to find out why. He tells her that he’s a vampire and can save her – but she’ll have to say goodbye to her family forever.

Crave – Tracy Wolff

When Grace’s parents die in an accident she’s forced to move to Alaska to live with her uncle at his boarding school. But she can’t help but notice that there’s something kind of…off about the students there. 

And then there’s Jaxon Vega, a mysterious boy who she’s very attracted to but seems to hate her.
