Books that boyband-obsessed people need to read

If you love boybands then there’s something so much fun about reading books that feature boybands. Here are 7 recommendations.

The Comeback – Lily Chu

Adriadne Hui is a mega-focused lawyer determined to climb the corporate lawyer. One day she returns home from work to find an unfamiliar but gorgeous man in her living room – his name is Jihoon and he’s her roommate’s cousin visiting from Seoul to get over a broke heart.

Ari expects him to stay for a while without interacting with him, but they soon begin spending time together and, before long, Ari is falling hard for him. But then Ari finds out the truth … he’s a member of a world famous boyband and she’s suddenly thrown onto the world stage where she struggles to be seen as the competent lawyer she knows she is.

This book is nice because the characters are a bit older than a lot of books that focus on boybands. Ariadne is already a lawyer and has her own career. It’s a closed door adult romance.

The Idea of You – Robinne Lee

Solene Marchand is a 39-year-old mother and the owner of an LA art gallery who reluctantly takes her daughter to see world-famous boyband, August Moon, where they get the opportunity to meet the band. The last thing Solene expects is to make a connection with any of the members, but Hayes is clever, kind, confident and pretty posh and she’s attracted to him immediately. He’s also only 20 years old.

Solene and Hayes quickly begin a secret but passionate relationship that takes Solene all over the world, but as the relationship is forced into the public eye they’re forced to deal with rabid fans … and the fact that her daughter is obsessed with Hayes.

This book is seems like it is obviously based on Harry Styles even though the author says it’s not based on anyone. It’s being adapted into a movie starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.

The Boyband Murder Mystery – Ava Eldred

Harri and her best friends worship Half Light – an internationally famous boyband. One day frontman Frankie is arrested on suspicion of murdering his oldest friend and Harri feels like her life is about to fall apart. But Half Light superfans know he could never have done it and they know more about the band than anyone so Harri meets up with her online friends and together they attempt to prove Frankie’s innocence. They show the world that you should never underestimate a teenage girl with a passion…

The Boyband Murder mystery is a book for the girls that were diehard boyband fans as teenagers. Not everyone will get this book. It really focuses on what it was like to be in an online boyband fandom and if you weren’t part of that then you might not like this book.

A Merry Little Meet Cute – Julie Murphy + Sienna Miller

Bee Hobbes is a successful plus-size adult film star. She has a huge following but when her favourite producer casts her to star in a Christmas movie he’s making for the squeaky-clean Hope Channel, her career begins to take a turn in the more family-friendly direction.

She’s forced to keep her work a secret which turns out to be harder than expected when she discovers her co-star is her childhood crush, Nolan Shaw, an ex-boyband member in desperate need of career rehab, and turns out he’s also a fan of her work!

They’re filming in a tiny Christmas town where things quickly begin to heat up. And things just get worse when the reporter that ruined Nolan’s career begins sneaking about on set.

This is a fun, spicy read that’s more like a comedy than any of the other’s on this list!

Shine – Jessica Jung

Korean-American Rachel Kim is a part-time k-pop trainee at South Korea’s biggest k-pop company know for churning out some of the world’s most popular stars. She must follow 3 simple rules: train 24/7, be perfect, and don’t date.

When one trainee is given the opportunity to duet with Jason Lee, one of the company’s biggest stars, Rachel quickly begins to develop feelings for him which threatens to ruin her career before it’s even started.

Shine is interesting because it’s (ghost-written) by Korean-American k-pop star, Jessica Jung, who rose to fame in the mega-famous group Girls Generation.

If This Gets Out – Sophie Gonzales + Cale Dietrich

Ruben Montez and Zach Knight are two members of one of the biggest boybands, Saturday. Publically the group are best of friends, but behind the scenes cracks are starting to form and the pressures of fame start to get to them.

On a whirlwind tour throughout Europe, Ruben and Zach begin to rely on each more and more and their close friendship evolves into a romance. But when they’re ready to tell the world of their relationship, they start to realise that they may never have the support of management.

This feels like a classic boyband fanfiction (in a good way, of course). So many boybands have rumours about the members hooking up and it’s not a surprise this has been made into a book.
