Taylor Swift songs as Books

I read a lot and I listen to a lot of music and I always manage to find a way to relate whatever book I’m reading to the songs I’m currently listening to. And sometimes I’m listening to a song and all I can think is, ‘damn, I wish there was a book that was like this song.’ And it happens so often when I’m listening to Taylor Swift. So, here are 12 book recommendations based on different Taylor Swift songs you might like.

If you like MAROON (Midnights) then you should read HAPPY PLACE by Emily Henry

Looked up at the sky and it was

The burgundy on my t-shirt when you splashed your wine into me

And how the blood rushed into my cheeks, so scarlet it was

The mark they saw on my collarbone

The rust that grew between telephones

The lips I used to call home

So scarlet, it was maroon

If you like FORTNIGHT (The Tortured Poets Department) then you should read AN OFFER FROM A GENTLEMAN by Julia Quinn

I touched you for only a fortnight (I touched you)

But I touched you

And for a fortnight there, we were forever

Run into you sometimes, ask about the weather

Now you’re in my backyard, turned into good neighbors

If you like ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS STAY (1989) then you should read RIDE WITH ME by Simone Soltani

The more I think about it now

The less I know

All I know is that you drove us

Off the road

(Stay) hey, all you had to do was stay

Had me in the palm of your hand, then

Why’d you have to go and lock me out when I let you in?

If you like I CAN SEE YOU (Speak Now) then you should read MY LADY JANE by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Han, and Jodi Meadows

I’ve been watching you for ages

And I spend my time trying not to feel it

But what would you do if I went to touch ya now?

What would you do if they never found us out?

What would you do if we never made a sound?

‘Cause I can see you waiting down the hall from me

And I could see you up against the wall with me

And what would you do? Baby, if you only knew

That I can see you

If  you liked WILLOW (evermore) you should read A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES by Deborah Harkness

I’m like the water when your ship rolled in that night

Rough on the surface, but you cut through like a knife

And if it was an open-shut case

I never would’ve known from that look on your face

Lost in your current like a priceless wine

The more that you say, the less I know

Wherever you stray, I follow

I’m begging for you to take my hand

Wreck my plans, that’s my man

If you like THE LAKES (folklore) then you should read A STUDY IN DROWNING by Ava Reid

Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die

I don’t belong, and my beloved, neither do you

Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry

I’m setting off, but not without my muse

If you like AUGUST (folklore) then you should read ONE DAY by David Nicholls

Back when we were still changin’ for the better

Wanting was enough

For me, it was enough

To live for the hope of it all

Cancel plans just in case you’d call

And say you meet me behind the mall

So much for summer love and saying, “Us”

‘Cause you weren’t mine to lose

You weren’t mine to lose, no

But I can see us lost in the memory

August slipped away into a moment in time

‘Cause it was never mine

If you like MARY’S SONG (Taylor Swift) then you should read THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY by Jenny Han

Well, I was sixteen when suddenly

I wasn’t that little girl you used to see

But your eyes still shined like pretty lights

And our daddies used to joke about the two of us

They never believed we’d really fall in love

And our mamas smiled and rolled their eyes

And said oh my my my

If you like ELECTRIC TOUCH (Speak Now) then you should read ONE LAST STOP by Casey McQuiston

I’ve got my money on things goin’ badly

Got a history of stories ending sadly

Still hoping that the fire won’t burn me

Just one time, just one time

All I know is this could either break my heart

Or bring it back to life

Got a feelin’ your electric touch

Could fill this ghost town up with life

If you like SAY DON’T GO (1989) then you should read HOW TO HONEYMOON ALONE by Olivia Hayle

I’m standin’ on a tightrope alone

I hold my breath a little bit longer

Halfway out the door, but it won’t close

I’m holdin’ out hope for you to say, “Don’t go”

I would stay forever if you say, “Don’t go”

If you liked THE SMALLEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED (The Tortured Poets Department) then you should read THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES by Suzanne Collins

Were you writing a book?

Were you a sleeper cell spy?

In 50 years will all this be declassified?

And you’ll confess why you did it

And I’ll say, “Good riddance”

Cause it wasn’t sexy once it wasn’t forbidden

I would’ve died for your sins

Instead I just died inside

If you like YOU ARE IN LOVE (1989) you should read YOU AND ME ON VACATI’ON by Emily Henry

One night he wakes

Strange look on his face

Pauses, then says

“You’re my best friend”

And you knew what it was

He is in love
